Casey shares a deep personal story of resilience, shaped by the loss of his father in April 2024. He shares that this scholarship represents not only financial support, but also emotional relief during a period of profound grief. He is committed to honoring his father’s legacy by making a lasting impact in the field of biotechnology, particularly in cancer detection and treatment. Casey’s academic journey includes a Business Administration degree with additional coursework in Human Biology and Genetics, as well as multiple internships and a competitive upcoming role in biotech equity capital markets.
Beyond academics, he is involved in fundraising for cancer research and serving on executive boards for USC student organizations. These accomplishments have come despite significant challenges, including managing a congenital brain condition that required surgery and ongoing medical care, and a sudden financial strain following his father’s death. With his family’s primary income lost and the FAFSA not reflecting their current reality, the scholarship would alleviate an overwhelming financial burden.
Retired Captain Josh McHugh says, “Casey is an exceptional young man: driven, likable, curious, and compassionate. When his father fell ill, he did not retreat from life. He leaned in, even while undergoing his own severe health issues while maintaining impressive academic success.”
