Gavin is currently a senior in high school. He plans to obtain his associate degree in fire science then obtain his bachelor’s degree in either fire science or specialized fire engineering. Gavin also intends to enlist in the National Guard with a focus on special forces.

Gavin served in the US Naval Sea Cadet Corps during high school, volunteering at the local American Legion where he learned about the day-to-day life of a US Sailor. He most enjoyed his time there performing hands on training with members of the DEA, Secret Service, and Naval Warfare Specialists.

Wrestling Coach Harry Barnabae says, “I have always marveled at Gavin’s display of outstanding sportsmanship and how he cares for everyone he encounters in the academic, social, and community setting. He took on personal responsibilities around the home when his mother was working, yet always continued to do his absolute best. Gavin exhibits pure selflessness through community service impacting the homeless in our community. It is these traits that make him a model recipient of this scholarship.”
