Scholarship Recipient

Katelyn Manger

Major: Social Work
Academic Scholarship Years:
Daughter of
Katelyn Manger

Losing both of her parents, Katelyn learned she wants to help people in a similar situation. Her mother succumbed to cancer in May 2017 and five short months later, her father was killed in the line-of-duty. Her oldest brother is guardian to her and her other siblings.

Katelyn is currently a junior and this fall will be applying to the social work program where she will work with children going through the darkest and hardest times in their lives.

Jack Diaz, Assistant Chief (retired) of the Winner Volunteer Fire Department says, “Katelyn was forced to mature and become a primary caregiver for her younger siblings. She exhibits the same strong work ethic that her parents instilled in her. She is compassionate and is dedicated to becoming a social worker to help others as she was helped in her time of need.”

Katelyn’s previous scholarships were made possible with support from the
Motorola Solutions Foundation and the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
