Senator Paul Sarbanes Scholarship

Scholarship Recipient

Kayla Ford

Major: Early Childhood Education
Academic Scholarship Years:
Daughter of
Robert Ford
Kayla Ford

Kayla graduated with a dual bachelor’s degree in early childhood education and Special Education. Within one year of moving home to New York, she was offered a full-time position as a teacher in a local school. She is a previous scholarship recipient which allowed her to finish her master’s degree in Special Education. Kayla is now employed at a school for children with Dyslexia and Language-based Disabilities; the first free school of its kind which just opened in 2020.

With most of her time now focused on planning for her students’ education and tutoring, she does not currently volunteer. While in school, she was a member of the Sigma Pi Epsilon Delta sorority’s Special Education and Rehabilitation Honor Society. Kayla organized and volunteered at events to serve children and adults with disabilities.

A fellow educator writes, “Kayla’s classroom is a warm environment that is filled with learning and fun. She is firm, yet sweet and provides her students with the structure they need. Her classroom management and organization skills are impressive.”
