As a first-year medical student, Miranda finds the coursework more challenging than she expected but is grateful for the financial support that eases her burden. The scholarship has enabled her to focus on her studies while participating in medical outreach efforts, including volunteering at a soup kitchen, supporting migrant healthcare services, and assisting at a cost-free clinic near the U.S.-Mexico border. Despite the difficulties she has faced, Miranda is determined to provide compassionate care to the communities that need it most.
Outside of her studies, Miranda’s family has been working to rebuild her grandmother’s life after losing her home in the Altadena fire. Though it has been difficult to be far from them during this time, their encouragement keeps her motivated and focused on her education. She credits her family’s support and the scholarship for helping her remain committed to her goals. Ultimately, Miranda hopes to use her medical degree to serve her community in a meaningful way, carrying forward the generosity and encouragement she has received.
Firefighter/Paramedic (Retired) Michael Carroll states, “Miranda is a determined, caring, and intelligent young lady who strives to do nothing less than her best in all that she does. It is my sincere belief that she will make an outstanding physician in the future and benefit society with her caring nature.”
