Senator Paul Sarbanes Scholarship

Scholarship Recipient

Owen Curry

Major: Mechanical Engineering
Academic Scholarship Years:
Son of
Owen Curry

Owen is currently a freshman at Daytona State College. His career goal has changed slightly as he now is pursuing his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with a minor at UCF for robotics. He changed his focus as he knows that careers in engineering and robotics are in high demand and pay very well. Owen has always loved robotics and building things.

Owen continues to work at The Garden Shop at Select Growers and recently began working at Hollister. When not studying or working, he enjoys attending church on Wednesdays and Sundays as it allows him to strive to be closer to God and build fellowship with others. Owen joined the young adults’ small group at church. He also assists with caring for his mother who has chronic Lyme Disease and assists with caring for his two sisters and two stepsiblings.

Dennis Futch, Lieutenant (ret) says, “Owen is a hard-working young man with a job and going to school. He has been very supportive of his mother while maintaining good grades in school.” Adds Anayelly Sanchez, Assistant Manager, “Owen is enthusiastic in all he does, and manages his time properly.”

Owen’s previous scholarship was made possible with support from
Motorola Solutions Foundation, Global Health and Safety, MissionSquare Retirement Memorial Scholarship Fund, and the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
