Patrick shares that receiving this scholarship will help alleviate the financial burden of college, allowing him to focus fully on his education at the University of Maryland. Throughout high school, he balanced academics, athletics, work, and service—participating as a three-sport varsity athlete, working part-time at a grocery store, and being an active member of several honor societies. He also contributed as a tutor in history, English, and science, and volunteered as a summer camp counselor for basketball and baseball, demonstrating a strong commitment to both leadership and community involvement.
Now in his second semester at college, Patrick has continued his active engagement through academic and fraternity life. He maintains a high GPA (3.77 last semester), participates in various fraternity committees, and supports philanthropic causes such as the Red Devils Foundation and campus clean-up efforts. He remains physically active through intramural sports, even helping his team win a championship that raised funds for charity. Looking ahead, he plans to intern with the Montgomery County Police Department, gaining valuable experience in the field he hopes to pursue professionally.
Fire Chief Thomas Coe cites, “Patrick is a well-rounded, mature, engaged, and intelligent young man who clearly has a plan for his future. His family is made up of strongly rooted public safety professionals. Even through all his activities at college, Patrick maintains a part-time job as a cashier at Jubilee Food grocery store and supports the Catoctin Youth Association’s U10 and U12 Baseball and Basketball programs through coaching.”
