Skylar has dreamt of becoming a nurse for years. She credits the care that her sister received when she was born three months prematurely from doctors and nurses in the NICU for fueling her desire to be one of the helpers. Skylar plans to get her bachelor’s in nursing and work as a traveling nurse to help people everywhere.
She has just begun clinicals at a local hospital and retirement center as part of her high school nursing class. When Skylar isn’t spending time on clinicals, she can be found volunteering with the National Honor Society performing community service projects locally such as canned food drives, coat drives and assembling candy bags at Halloween for the children in the pediatric wing of the local hospital. She is also a member of the Spanish Honor Society, Interact Club and HOSA.
Words like intelligent, assertive, kind, driven and compassionate are used by teachers, neighbors and peers when discussing Skylar. A neighbor and college professor believes these traits makes Skylar deserving of a scholarship.
