At just 13 years old, Jessica Seaburg’s world was shattered when her father, Kevin Seaburg, died in the line of duty. In this heartfelt episode, you will hear Jessica describe her journey of healing and growth—from the day she learned about her father’s death through serving in her community as the fire commissioner. After the loss of her dad, Jessica also took on the caretaker role for her mother and five-year-old sister—yet did not face her own grief until years later.
Jessica has made a difference in the NFFF community by training to be a peer supporter to help other family members who have lost a firefighter. She was instrumental in helping families after the tragic loss of nine firefighters in Charleston, South Carolina, in 2007. And Jessica and her best friend Marisa Harris—also a daughter of a fallen firefighter—are the founders of a Facebook group for children of fallen firefighters to help others connect and support each other.
Jessica’s service in her hometown and with the NFFF exemplify the spirit of service to others. After listening to this episode, you will undoubtedly agree that she is living a life her father would be proud of.
