The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) mourns the loss of First Responders Center of Excellence (FRCE) board member and friend, John Miclot, who died in March.

John was a man of many talents—a volunteer firefighter with the Fox Chapel Fire Department, former president and CEO of Philips Respironics, a successful entrepreneur, venture capitalist, and dedicated philanthropist. He championed many causes close to his heart and used his talents to make a lasting impact in both business and service to others.

“John was a visionary leader with an unwavering commitment to firefighter health and safety,” said Victor Stagnaro, CEO of the NFFF and FRCE. “He left an indelible mark on the fire service community and had a positive impact from the boardroom to the fireground. We are deeply grateful for his friendship and service, and we mourn his loss alongside all who had the privilege of knowing him.”

A passionate advocate for the fire service, John especially valued his role as a safety officer and was deeply committed to advancing firefighter health and safety. John served as a national safety officer with the Fire Department Safety Officers Association (FDSOA), where he helped promote safety and training initiatives nationwide. He also brought his leadership to the board of the First Responders Center of Excellence, furthering its mission to reduce line-of-duty deaths and injuries among first responders.

“John Miclot’s dedication to our mission was both personal and profound. He brought unmatched insight, compassion, and leadership to the FRCE, always pushing us to do more to protect those who protect others,” said Chief Frank Leeb, Managing Director of the FRCE. “John was instrumental in connecting the FRCE with leading experts in the field of health and safety, helping us expand our reach and deepen our impact. His legacy will continue to guide our work, and his absence is deeply felt by all of us who had the honor of serving alongside him.”

We at the NFFF and the FRCE extend our deepest sympathies to John’s family and friends and express our gratitude for the impact he made on firefighter health and safety.
