Walter A. Ernst‚ 61‚ a firefighter with the East Meadow Fire Department‚ died after a simulated training exercise on May 28‚ 1998. He had served with the department for 26 years.

Robert Reed was a member of Engine Company # 4 of the East Meadow Fire Department. He was a kind‚ witty‚ intelligent man‚ who rose through the ranks of Engine Company 4 to Captain‚ and later to 3rd assistant Chief.

In 1981‚ while battling a major lumber yard fight on the evening before‚ 1st Assistant Chief Robert Reed suffered a heart attack and ultimately passed away. He was remembered in a moving service by members of the East Meadow Fire Department and many neighboring agencies for the leader he was.

Robert Reed was 62 at the time of his passing.
