Anthony Sean ‘Sauce’ Phillips Sr., 30, a three-year career District of Columbia firefighter‚ died on May 30‚ 1999‚ from burns sustained in a townhouse fire. Phillips worked at Engine Company 10‚ one of the busiest stations in the country. Louis J. Matthews died in the same incident. It was the department’s first multiple line-of-duty death in over 90 years.
