Arthur J. Krenn

Truckman Arthur J. Krenn was a passenger in the chief’s vehicle with Chief’s Driver James Russell, Chief Charles Doll and Chief’s son Arthur on 12/11/1917. The vehicle was struck by a Northwestern passenger train to an active fire alarm on the city’s west side. Truckman died as a result of his traumatic injuries while Driver James Russell was confined to the hospital; Arthur Doll sustained facial burns caused by a broken jar of acid and Chief Doll was confined to bed at home from the injuries.

This firefighter line of duty fatality occurred before the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial was built in Emmitsburg, Maryland. While this firefighter has not been officially honored at the Memorial site, there are plans to do so when resources are available.
