Barry Lee Dockter

Submitted by his wife

Barry Dockter‚ 44 years old‚ died in the line of duty after a tragic Fourth of July fireworks accident while assisting a neighborhood community with their fireworks display.

‘Assisting a neighbor’ in need of help was one of Barry’s greatest attributes. He was always willing to help out‚ always with a smile and never had a complaint. No one was ever too young or too old for Barry to befriend. Barry married Cindy Froelich in 1989 and loved and worked hard to support Cindy and children Toddy and Kristy. He would have been a great influence in the lives of his grandchildren Alyssa and Bracstin. He loved playing with Alyssa – giving her 4-wheeler rides and reading to her at bedtime. Although Bracstin did not get to meet his grandpa‚ Barry’s family will keep his memories alive.

Prior to moving to Anamoose‚ Barry owned and operated Dockter’s Repair in Mandan and commuted back and forth to farm with his parents. Duaine and Lyla on the farm where he grew up along with his sisters‚ Rhonda and Lisa. He loved farming and as the only son‚ planned to take over the family farm in 2003. He loved spending time with his family‚ camping‚ being outdoors‚ and hunting with their dog Sadie‚ his loyal companion.

In the two short years Barry and Cindy were residents of Anamoose in addition to farming with his parents‚ Barry worked for the City of Anamoose as their Water Plant Operator‚ he was a Civic Club member‚ an elder for St. Martin’s Lutheran Church‚ a director for the Martin Farmers Elevator Co.‚ a member of Anamoose Wildlife‚ Pheasants Forever‚ and the Anamoose Volunteer Fire Department. Barry was a special person. He touched the hearts of so many people both young and old. His many friends and family will never forget his quiet manner‚ his genuine smile and his love for life.

To those whom much is given – much is expected. Although Barry was not given great financial rewards‚ he was given much in heart and soul. It was that heart and soul that endeared everyone to him as he went about doing his daily tasks.
