Bernard McSloy

Firefighter Bernard McSloy of the Philadelphia Fire Department, was killed on May 16, 1976, while fighting a basement fire at Barson’s Deli at Bustleton and Castor Avenues, in which the floor collapsed. Firefighter Richard Iannacone, Firefighter David Stewart and Firefighter Aloysius Welsh were also killed.

This firefighter line of duty fatality occurred before the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial was built in Emmitsburg, Maryland. While this firefighter has not been officially honored at the Memorial site, there are plans to do so when resources are available.
