Fire Captain Cornelius Prince of the Patterson Fire Department, died suddenly on November 6, 1923, from an heart attack after responding to a fire on North 7 North Main Street. Captain Prince was appointed July 1, 1905. He served at Engine 2, 3, 5 (Engineer), 9 and as Captain (February 14, 1922) at E1 and then E12.
This firefighter line of duty fatality occurred before the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial was built in Emmitsburg, Maryland. While this firefighter has not been officially honored at the Memorial site, there are plans to do so when resources are available.
