Year Honored:

Damon Blaine Thompson

Damon Thompson was born on Mother’s Day (May 9th) in Show Low, Arizona. He was the beloved son of Daniel James Thompson and Shellie Watt Thompson. He left behind six siblings, Daniel, Ashton, Sunnie, Jordana, Jaden, and Adrian; sixteen nieces and nephews who adored him; and a loving fiancée who held a special place in his heart.

Damon was a dedicated firefighter who started his career at the young age of 14 as a junior firefighter with the Concho (Arizona) Fire Department, serving his community with courage, strength, and a deep sense of duty. Protecting others wasn’t just his job; it was who he was. He stood ready to help whenever people needed him, facing danger with the same steady determination he carried through every part of his life.

At the age of 20 he joined the Timber Mesa Fire Department in Show Low, Arizona, to further his career. On September 14, 2025, just 15 days short of one year with Timber Mesa, he was tragically killed in a head-on crash alongside his coworker while serving in the line of duty.

Outside of the fire service, Damon felt most at home in the wilderness. The mountains, tall pines, and fresh air were his happy place. He loved being outdoors and was always joking about finding the next tree that “needed to come down”—the live ones included.

Damon lived a life of service, hard work, and laughter. Whether he was responding to a call or standing in the middle of the forest with a chainsaw and a grin, he brought strength, humor, and heart to everything he did. His legacy continues through the people who love him and the lives he touched.
