Roll of Honor

Firefighter
Age: 27
Year of Death: 1980

Edward Gaicki

Edward Gaicki, a six-year firefighter and paramedic, had gone into a commercial building to search for people and fight a massive four-alarm blaze when the roof collapsed on him, and he died. He had been nominated for the Tempe Jaycees’ Outstanding Young Firefighter Award of the Year just five days before his death.

This firefighter line of duty fatality occurred before the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial was built in Emmitsburg, Maryland. While this firefighter has not been officially honored at the Memorial site, there are plans to do so when resources are available.
