Edward R. Connolly was an 18 year veteran of the department assigned to Ladder 17. While performing suppression operations at a 3 story structure fire‚ a wall of the structure collapsed‚ hitting a tree and causing it and falling debris to strike Connolly and several other firefighters. Connolly sustained fatal injuries while the other firefighters sustained non-life threatening injuries.
There were several structures involved and the weather was very cold with windy conditions.
Just finished Leo Stapleton’s “Commish”, where I read about Conolly’s Sacrifice. It takes a different breed to do what firefighters do. Thank you Edward Connolly for your service and sacrifice.
