Frank J. Callahan‚ 50‚ captain‚ FDNY‚ Ladder 35. When he joined the FDNY in September 1973‚ Callahan fulfilled his childhood dream of becoming a firefighter. After 24 years in the FDNY‚ he rose to captain and joined Ladder 35 a few months later. A quiet man‚ Callahan shied away from celebrations‚ preferring to relax at home‚ read about history‚ and‚ most importantly‚ spend time helping to raise his four children.
That job was all he ever wanted.
On September 11th 2015, I had the privilege to take part in the 9/11 Denver memorial stair climb. In memory of the 343 firefighters who served selflessly that day, myself and several other firefighters attended this event. I climbed in honor of Captain Frank J. Callahan, Ladder 35. It was an absolute honor to climb in his name. I will never forget the firefighters who gave their lives to help others.
– David MartinezI participated in the 911 Memorial Stair Climb at Lambeau Field on Saturday, September 13, 2015 and climbed in honor of Captain Frank J. Callahan, Ladder 35. This was an incredible and very emotional experience and one I will strive to do each September to honor those who lost their lives doing their job. God Bless!
– Deb RohrkasteI’ve participated in the 9/11 memorial climb in Sacramento for a couple years. After my first year of carrying Capt. Frank Callahan’s name I insisted on always carrying his name. I have looked online to no avail but I wish I could reach out to his family and tell them how much their father has touched my life and the lives of many others far away from FDNY. Thank you for the honor and privilege
– Bryan CostelloOn September 10th, 2016 I participated in the 911 Memorial Stair Climb in Green Bay, WI. I had the privilege of climbing for Captain Frank J. Callahan, Ladder 35. This was my first climb, but definitely not my last! To be able to say I climbed 110 flights of stairs is one thing, but to say that I did it in honor of a man who, through his selflessness, gave the ultimate sacrifice, is an experience I cannot even put into words. When I signed up, I didn’t think that finishing the climb would even be possible, but with Frank riding shotgun, all my doubts were lifted and I found myself jogging up the stairs! May you never be forgotten! God bless.
– Shawna Huss-WeberThis morning I participated in the 2016 New Hampshire 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb. It was my great privilege to climb in honor of Captain Frank J Callahan of Ladder 35. An honor to be able to participate in this very moving experience. 15 Years may have passed, but we will never forget the sacrifices and lives lost on that day.

Each one of us climbing had someone’s name on their SCBA who gave the ultimate sacrifice, and I was priveledged enough to climb those flights with such a great name on my back. Definitely an experience I will never forget.
– Kolton MechamI went to the middle school upstate where his wife worked. Very sweet woman, very traumatic hearing her cry when the towers collapsed. Bless her and her family and his soul. Every time I go to the memorial (I live in Brooklyn now) I find his name and remember his bravery, of which I’ve read accounts. Bless his soul.

– Tyler StokkaJust a great ‘thank you” for all of you whom keep reaching-out to support, pray, and represent this man, and all of the others from 9-11. You see, Capt. Callahan was my son-in-law’s Dad. FDNY Lt. Harry Callahan married my daughter, Joanna. He is as fine a son as a father could have ever hoped for, and I am VERY proud of my son-in-law Harry, and all of the FDNY/NYPD members. ‘Thanx’ again for remembering Capt. Francis Callahan…forever.
