Frank J. Callahan‚ 50‚ captain‚ FDNY‚ Ladder 35. When he joined the FDNY in September 1973‚ Callahan fulfilled his childhood dream of becoming a firefighter. After 24 years in the FDNY‚ he rose to captain and joined Ladder 35 a few months later. A quiet man‚ Callahan shied away from celebrations‚ preferring to relax at home‚ read about history‚ and‚ most importantly‚ spend time helping to raise his four children.
That job was all he ever wanted.

On September 11th 2015, I had the privilege to take part in the 9/11 Denver memorial stair climb. In memory of the 343 firefighters who served selflessly that day, myself and several other firefighters attended this event. I climbed in honor of Captain Frank J. Callahan, Ladder 35. It was an absolute honor to climb in his name. I will never forget the firefighters who gave their lives to help others.

– Bryan CostelloOn September 10th, 2016 I participated in the 911 Memorial Stair Climb in Green Bay, WI. I had the privilege of climbing for Captain Frank J. Callahan, Ladder 35. This was my first climb, but definitely not my last! To be able to say I climbed 110 flights of stairs is one thing, but to say that I did it in honor of a man who, through his selflessness, gave the ultimate sacrifice, is an experience I cannot even put into words. When I signed up, I didn’t think that finishing the climb would even be possible, but with Frank riding shotgun, all my doubts were lifted and I found myself jogging up the stairs! I participated in the first annual 9/11 memorial stair climb in Savannah Georgia on September 10th 2023. They asked if we wanted to carry the name of one of the fallen firefighters and of course I said yes and one that I carried was Frank Callahan. May you never be forgotten!
