Roll of Honor

Engineer
Year of Death: 1985

Frank R. Vigh

Submitted by his wife

Frank was an Engineer for the Orange County Fire Department‚ FL. Beginning with the Pine Castle Fire Department outside of Orlando‚ FL‚ Frank served several years before Pine Castle became part of the consolidated Orange County Fire Department. But Frank’s heritage goes farther than his own nearly 12 years of service. His father served with the South Bend‚ Indiana‚ Fire Department for 29 years prior to retiring. Although he pursued other jobs for several years after military service‚ he finally yielded to the ‘tug’ of his heritage.

Frank was always known for his hospitality and ‘gentleman’ nature. Noted for his ever-present coffee cup‚ he was quick with a welcome for visitors and ready for conversation.

He was a perfectionist. As an Engineer‚ Engine 52 was ‘his’ engine. Any dust or tools out of place were upsetting to him. He was always willing to share his expertise with the rookies.

Due to the young age of the ‘new’ consolidated fire department Frank’s best assets were his maturity‚ dedication‚ thoroughness‚ and positive attitude.

Frank was a member of the St Andrews Catholic Church‚ Moose Lodge 766‚ Legion of the Moose‚ and International Association of Fire Fighters.

His wife Wanda‚ four children‚ seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren survive him.
