Firefighter (Acting Lieutenant) George Magnan, age 54, of the Providence Fire Department, died of a heart attack while fighting a structure fire on June 26, 1961.

George was a 25-year veteran firefighter of the department.

He is survived by his wife Doris; their sons Gerald and Donald; and their daughter, Lorraine.

In 2005, his children established the George and Doris Magnan Memorial Scholarship was created in their honor, to recognize the educational opportunities available at Bristol Community College, and support students in the Fire Science Technology Program.
