George Converse‚ 48‚ a contract pilot with the US Forest Service‚ died in a helicopter crash in Apple Valley‚ California on July 18‚ 1998. He was a resident of McMinnville.

George was a fine man. He always put others first above himself. He was the chief pilot but acted no better than any other person. It was an privilege to work under the long line that was attached to a helicopter George was in command of. To be considered his friend is a honor.
