George S. Davis

George S. Davis was born February 15‚ 1950‚ to George C. and Ramona McMillan Davis. George was a 1968 graduate of Greeley High School in Cumberland‚ Maine. While in high school he was a junior member of the Cumberland Fire Department at age 15.

Following high school he served in the Army as a door gunner in Viet Nam. After his military service he returned to Maine and began work for Dave Astor’s Garage. He later worked for Motor Truck & Trailer Company‚ where he met his future wife‚ Denise.

In 1976 he married the former Denise Meehan in Portland‚ Maine. Following his marriage he worked for James Wiltsie Company. He later worked for Shaw’s Supermarkets.

The family moved to Lyman‚ Maine‚ and George joined the Goodwins Mills Fire & Rescue‚ where he rose through the ranks of the department serving as deputy fire chief from 2002 until 2004. He received the Chief Coyle R. Meserve Outstanding Member of the Year Award in 2001 and was named an honorary member of the Goodwins Mills Fire Rescue.

George was also a full-time fire marshal for the Sanford Fire Department and a Maine state fire instructor. George served as town selectman for the Town of Lyman for two terms. In 2005‚ he was named fire chief of the Hollis Fire & Rescue‚ a position he held until the time of his passing. George was a member and past president of the York County Fire Chiefs Association.

George leaves behind his wife of 36 years‚ Denise‚ and his son‚ Aaron‚ along with his wife‚ Ronny‚ whom George considered his daughter. He also leaves the joy of his life‚ his grandson‚ Ronan. He was also survived by two brothers and six sisters.
