Gregory Cross

Gregory Eugene Cross was born June 6, 1966, in Clinton, Oklahoma. He was raised and educated in Choctaw, Oklahoma, before moving to Navajo, Oklahoma, during his sophomore year of high school. In high school Greg was an accomplished baseball and basketball player. In 1984, Greg graduated from Navajo High School and then attended Western Oklahoma State College in Altus, where he played basketball.

In October 1987, Greg volunteered for the Friendship Fire Department. In 1994, he started working for the City of Altus, where he served for 29 years with distinction. Greg served in numerous capacities at the department and was serving as the fire chief at the time of his passing. He loved his community and his fellow brothers at the firehouse.

On August 31, 1991, Greg married the love of his life and soulmate Ronna, (Snyder) Cross, at Friendship Baptist Church. They were married for 32 years. Greg and Ronna were blessed with three children, Nathan Cross (wife Taylor Cross), Kalee Gorman (husband Austun Gorman), and Kasey Cross. One of Greg’s favorite things to do was to attend his children’s sporting events, and he was always cheering the loudest.

Greg was an active member at Martha Road Baptist Church. He loved to spread the good word to those around him. Greg enjoyed flying his airplane and going to OU football games with friends and family. He liked Sprint, Indy, and NASCAR races and going on vacation in the mountains with his family.

Of all Greg’s hobbies, being around his family was his number one priority. He cherished every minute he had with his family. Throughout his life, Greg cracked jokes with those who came to see him, told stories, and loved every moment he got with his loved ones. He had a great ability to make others smile, and his sense of humor will be missed.
