James J. Hanley of East Islip, New York, succumbed to his 9/11-related illness on February 4, 2023.

James was devoted to his community and was a proud member of FDNY Battalion 7, Emerald Society, Holy Name Society, Division 7 Ancient Order of Hibernians of East Islip, and Knights of Columbus Council of Brentwood.

He was the beloved husband of the late Antoinette C. Hanley and the devoted father of Thomas (Bonnie) Hanley, James Hanley, Patricia (Keith) Cooney, John (Patricia Mary) Hanley, Edward (Maureen) Hanley, and Patrick (Gabriella) Hanley. He was the cherished grandfather of Christine, Michelle (Chris), James, Bernadette, Kathleen, Alexis, Patrick, Daniel, Brian (Dana), Bridget, Kayla, Patricia, John, Aileen, Shannon, and Thomas, the treasured great-grandfather of Cayson and Makennah, and the dear brother of the late Thomas Hanley.
