James K. Donohue

Lt. James Donohue, from Douglaston, Queens, went to grade school at St. Anastasia’s in Little Neck, Queens, and later played basketball for St Helena’s High School in the Bronx. He remained an athlete throughout his life, with passions for swimming, tennis, skiing, and golf.

Jim served as a member of the FDNY for 30 years, first as a firefighter in Ladder 55/Engine 71, and then as a lieutenant at Ladder 8 in Tribeca. Jim was a first responder on 9/11 and spent substantial time at Ground Zero.

In his everyday life, he demonstrated compassion for animals.

Jim is survived by his wife, Elizabeth “Libby” Donohue; his daughter, Mariah; his two sons, Francis and James “Guy” Donahue; his son-in-law, David Weisenbeck; and his two sisters, Joanne Devine and Peggy Donohue. He is also survived by two nieces, two nephews, two dogs, six cats, and many longtime friends.

He was predeceased by his mother, Margaret Donohue, who was a nurse; his father, Francis, who served with the NYPD; and his older brother, Francis.

James is deeply missed.
