James Redmond died from illness related to his response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. Jimmy joined the FDNY in 1981 and proudly served until his retirement in 2002.

He was born in Queens, New York, to the late William and Marilyn Redmond. His family moved to Levittown, New York, in 1960. He graduated from Division Avenue High School, Class of 1970.

He was known for his athleticism and played baseball and football in his youth. Later in life, he enjoyed golf with his fellow FDNY brothers.

He was a loving father to Jaime Redmond-Hoffman and Cody James Redmond, stepfather to Billy Castle, and proud grandfather of Victoria Hoffman, Gage Hoffman, and Levi Redmond. He is also survived by his brother, John Redmond.
