Pipeman Jared Woodruff Taylor on Engine House 5 died as a result of pleural pneumonia and other complications (fractured rib, punctured lung) that were caused directly by the exposure and accident of a wall collapse from the Winnebago Furniture Company fire on April 27, 1909. Jared was caught under a collapsing wall during the incident, but he continued fighting the fire. After two days of suffering, he was taken to St. Agnes Hospital where he died a few days later.
