At approximately 6:30 am on July 16th, a fire broke out at the Saute Cafe, located at 123rd Street and Coastal Highway in North Ocean City, that would quickly become a 4 alarm blaze,fought by 115 firefighters . While battling the blaze, the roof of the building collapsed, trapping and fatally injuring Ocean City Firefighter Jeffrey L. Dieter. Firefighter Jeffrey Lee Dieter, Sr. was 24 years old and had served 2 years
The National Emergency Training Center (NETC) campus will be closed during the government shutdown, including access to the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial.
