John A. Petz

Firefighter John A. Petz, 42, a 16-year member of the Cleveland Division of Fire assigned to Rescue Squad 2, died in a dust explosion during a four-alarm fire at a metal processing plant. He is survived by his wife, Betty and five children: John, James, Janette, Jay, and Jillian.

This firefighter line of duty fatality occurred before the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial was built in Emmitsburg, Maryland. While this firefighter has not been officially honored at the Memorial site, there are plans to do so when resources are available.
