John P. Sullivan Jr. proudly served the FDNY as a firefighter with Ladder 34 in Washington Heights for 27 years. Known as the “senior man” in his firehouse, he was respected for his quiet strength, fairness, and loyalty.
Beyond the firehouse, John dedicated himself to his community, organizing an annual senior dinner in Washington Heights for two decades. A devoted husband and father, he never missed his sons’ games or milestones, always putting family first.
After September 11, 2001, John worked tirelessly in the recovery efforts at the World Trade Center. His service ultimately led to his illness, and he passed away on December 24, 2010, at the age of 52. John came from a proud firefighting family. His father also served with Ladder 34, and today his son Michael proudly continues that legacy in the very same firehouse.
John’s name and memory live on through his wife, children, grandchildren, community, and the countless lives he touched.
