Roll of Honor

Firefighter
Age: 66
Year of Death: 2024
Year Honored:

Jose L. Hickson

Jose Leroy Hickson, born September 17, 1957, resided in Garden City, South Carolina. He passed away at home on April 9, 2024, at age 66, of 9/11-related cancers.

Jose was a dedicated firefighter who traveled to many boroughs fighting fires. He also traveled to various schools and events teaching fire safety, which he loved.

Jose was selfless, putting others’ needs before his own. When he heard what happened on 9/11, he rushed down to help. Although his daughter, Tiffany, begged him not to go, he insisted and ran to help victims of 9/11.

Jose was trained as a minister in the theocratic ministry school of Jehovah’s Witnesses, which became his way of life, and I was drawn to him as a spiritual man.

He loved to read and learn new things; for example, taking a trucking course. He also enjoyed all genres of music.

Jose could be serious, but he had a tremendous sense of humor that could make an entire room burst into laughter.

He was very much loved by his family. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and “Pee-Paw,” as he was known by his five grandsons.

Although Jose is missed by his family and friends, we join him in his hope of a resurrection to life in paradise here on earth. John 5:28,29.
