Jay served with the department 2 years prior to his death. He was a senior at Montevallo High School and was to graduate May 26‚ 1994. He was an honor student‚ played on the football team‚ was a mass com camera tech‚ kept stats for baseball team‚ was a member of Boy Scouts of America and attended Mayberry Baptist Church. Jay participated in many school activities over the years including Peer Helpers‚ as a TV camera tech for the weekly school newscast‚ and cameraman for sports events.

Jay loved helping in the community and made friends with new families that moved into the neighborhood. He loved the out of doors and farming was his second favorite hobby. He helped his dad at hay cutting and bailing in the summer. He was an easy out-going kid who enjoyed helping others.
