Firefighter
Age: 83
Year of Death: 2020

Joseph Kenneth Barr

Ken Barr served his community faithfully for 56 years with the Powdersville Fire Department. He was a charter member of the fire department. Not only did he literally help build the department, he served as an officer at times during his tenure. He also served as the treasurer and on the board of directors. In 2012, he was awarded Firefighter of the Year for the station as well as for all of Anderson County, which has approximately 1,000 firefighters. He was posthumously inducted into the South Carolina Firefighters
Hall of Fame in 2023.

Whether it was responding to a call or taking care of business at a higher level to benefit the department, he was always there. He helped found the first EMS provider in the community, serving as an EMT and treasurer. He will be forever missed.

Ken was preceded in death by the love of his life, Annette, in 2019. Ken left quite a legacy—one daughter and three sons who also served in the fire department, one of whom is still serving. He also left 15 grandchildren and great-grandchildren who are still increasing.

He was a deacon in his church, serving as chairman of the deacons and going on numerous trips across the world on missions to help others and spread the word of Christ Jesus.

If there was one word to describe him, it would be SERVANT. It was God, family, then community. He set the example for us to follow, and we will miss him here on earth until we are reunited with him.
