Joseph R. ‘Dick’ Murphy‚ 64‚ a career member of the Boston Fire Department‚ died on January 29‚ 1999‚ of a heart attack after returning from a call. A 36-year veteran‚ he was the longest serving member of the department at the time of his death and was two months away from retirement. Three of his children are members of the fire service.
