Roll of Honor

Keithroy Marcellus Maynard

Keithroy Marcellus Maynard

  • Firefighter
  • Fire Department City of New York
  • New York
  • Age: 30
  • Year of Death: 2001

Keithroy Maynard was a firefighter at Engine 33‚ Ladder Company 9. He was a very good father and friend. His son Keithroy II meant everything to Keith; he had even started to recruit Keith II to the Fire Department at age 4. Keith was very active in the Fire Department especially in the Vulcan’s Club (club for Black firefighters). Keith loved his family very much and he was a good partner. He is so missed because we loved him.

Keith was always a leader. When he was in college‚ he was the President for the Caribbean Club. Then when he went to work for Continental Airlines‚ he fought for Union (AMR). Then he went to FDNY and joined the Vulcan Society Club fighting for more black men to join the Fire Department. I always told him he’s in the wrong line of work‚ he should be a politician.

Everyone loved Keith because he was a people person. You could ask him to do any favors and he’ll get it done.

  1. May you rest in peace. I didn’t know you personally but I know your son and you wife. Your son has talked about you so often that I feel like I knew you too. Your son misses you so much. Not a day goes by that he doesn’t mention you for one reason or another and I hear the pain in his voice. 🙁

  9. Today I carried Keith’s image with me at Red Rocks, Colorado as I participated in a 110 flight stair climb on the 20th Anniversary of 9/11. He and all of you are in my thoughts today as my family and I remember and are grateful to these hero’s. My children were not born yet when 9/11 happened so that scar on history is all they have known, and yet they admire what these brave men and women were faced with that day. Thank you for allowing us to memorialize the courage of Keith on this board. I have photos if you’d like to see them.
