Lawrence E. Miller
Cherry Creek Fire Department – New York
Classification: Volunteer

Date of Death: May 20‚ 1983

My dad served with the department for 33 years‚ serving as chief at the time of his death. He was a member of the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict and was a fuel supply specialist‚ stationed in Germany. He was a truck driver for various companies all his life. He was married to his wife Barbara for 30 years. She survived him until her death in 1996.

At the time of this profile update‚ he is survived by 2 daughters‚ Anita Wise of Cherry Creek‚ NY and Valerie Lowe of Merrimack‚ NH; 6 grand daughters‚ Jodee Newton of Clarksville‚ TN; Sara (Randy) Johnston of Robertsdale‚ AL; Stacey Newton of Glenmont‚ NY; Rachael (Tim) Wright of Buffalo‚ NY; Laura Wise of Robertsdale‚ AL and Taylor Lowe of Merrimack‚ NH and 3 great grandchildren‚ Shelby and William Johnston of Robertsdale‚ AL; and Kristopher Newton of Clarksville‚ TN.

My dad always wanted to get a pilots license and visit Alaska. He loved playing with his granddaughters and was well known and well loved by the entire community. He was usually the first one on a call and dedicated many‚ many hours to the department.

This firefighter line of duty fatality occurred before the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial was built in Emmitsburg, Maryland. While this firefighter has not been officially honored at the Memorial site, there are plans to do so when resources are available.
