Louis Andrews was the department foreman for the Caribou Fire Department. On March 6, 1944 Louis Andrews was on scene of a barn fire when he fell backwards off a firetruck and sustained a head injury. Louis Andrews died on March 16, 1944 at Cary Memorial Hospital. Mr. Andrews left behind his wife, Vivian and two children, Loretta Mae and Reginald Louis.


This firefighter line of duty fatality occurred before the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial was built in Emmitsburg, Maryland. While this firefighter has not been officially honored at the Memorial site, there are plans to do so when resources are available.
