Ralph E. Simon

Firefighter Ralph E. Simon, 52, a 23-year member of the Cleveland Division of Fire assigned to Engine 33, died in a dust explosion during a four-alarm fire at a metal processing plant. He is survived by two adult children, Douglas Simon and Sandra Goldwater.

This firefighter line of duty fatality occurred before the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial was built in Emmitsburg, Maryland. While this firefighter has not been officially honored at the Memorial site, there are plans to do so when resources are available.
