Roll of Honor

Lieutenant
Age: 55
Year of Death: 2006
Year Honored:

Reinaldo “Ruben” Natal

“I love my job.” That is what my husband said all the time. He was in Class 3 of ‘83 for the FDNY. His career was cut short by pancreatic cancer at age 55.

He began his career at Engine 288 and ended it as a lieutenant/field communications officer. He was on the scene on 9/11, that horrible day, and spent many days there. Eventually he was stationed there for ten weeks, manning the board as a field com officer.

We—his two daughters, son, and wife—miss him every day. Nineteen years have gone by, but our memories of him keep him alive in our hearts!

He enjoyed sports, reading, doing crossword puzzles, doing chores around the house, and spending time with his children. He was a member of the school PTA and always volunteered to be a class parent. He was a boy scout leader and coached CYO basketball in our community.

He loved being a New York City firefighter and being part of the brotherhood.
