Firefighter
Age: 65
Year of Death: 2004

Richard A. Jones

Submitted by his wife

Composed by his cousin

Very suddenly on January 15‚ 2004‚ at age 65‚ God called Firefighter Richard Jones (Dick as most knew him) home.

Dick was a loving husband‚ father‚ grandfather and an avid fireman. Dick joined Maryland Line Volunteer Fire Company in 1956 and held the offices of president‚ vice president‚ captain and board of directors throughout his 48 years of service. This organization meant everything to Dick and whenever that siren blew you knew he would be there.

Dick enjoyed hanging out at the Fire Station whether it was to work or just converse among friends. Dick raised his son‚ Brett to have the same love of firefighting and shared that love with his daughter-in-law Amanda and grandsons‚ Brett Jr. and Dustin. Dick involved his wife‚ Judy‚ daughter Kelly‚ son-in-law Bruce and granddaughters Olivia and Sara with fund raising events; He made sure everyone was contributing to his love of Maryland Line Fire Company.

Dick was an amazing man in that he would express his feelings‚ but never hold a grudge. He always welcomed you with a smile and some sort of joking remark. Dick’s character as well as his hard work is terribly missed by all. I found this poem that I would like to dedicate in memory of Dick. The title is

Go Rest High

As we continue to fight that great blazeanother angel is beside us on those frightful daysAs you enter heaven into the arms of the sonYou’re so full of peace‚ and your work here is doneAs you step out in faith‚ after that great fightWe will look up to heaven and know you’re alrightYou were so young‚ and accomplished so muchEven those who barely knew you‚ their hearts you have touchedNever forgetting the memories you gaveHolding them close each and every dayFor every life that we save‚ and fire we fightYou will be the knot in our rope‚ so we can hold on tight.

Dick‚ I know you walk by our sides everyday and we look forward to God calling us one by one to meet you in heaven’s Fire Station.
