Roll of Honor

Richard A. Liddy

Submitted by his Daughter

Firefighter Dick Liddy died from a cardiac event while hauling hose at an arson fire. Liddy was a volunteer firefighter for 45 years. He volunteered for the Bernardsville Fire Company for 21 years and served another 24 years with the Basking Ridge Fire Company. He served as Chief for the Basking Ridge Fire Company between 1973 and 1975 and as the President in 1990.

Dick Liddy was a retired electrician and an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He also served in the U.S. Navy.

Like his father before him‚ he was devoted to the fire service. He enjoyed the camaraderie‚ the excitement‚ and serving the community. Whether it was cleaning equipment‚ going on calls‚ marching in parades‚ participating in fund-raisers‚ or organizing the Tri-County Firematics Contests‚ he was dedicated to the fire service and understood that in unity there is strength.

He leaves his wife‚ Frances‚ a son‚ four daughters and seven grandchildren.
