Captain Samuel J. Criner, 45, was a firefighter for Drexel Heights Fire Department.
Sam was cherished by his parents and loved by his siblings. He was an amazing father to us and a loving grandfather to his grandson, Jameson. Some of the things our dad enjoyed were riding motorcycles, cooking, jokes, and spending time with friends and family. Sam would move heaven and earth to help others. One of our favorite things about dad is he always made it a point to go to our school events, even when on shift. Whenever we had a half day from school, he always took us for pizza or a fun activity.
Being a firefighter made him feel happy and fulfilled. He said it made him feel decades younger, and his favorite thing about the job was being able to mentor new firefighters. Sam has left a lasting memory with his family and those who continue to learn from his lessons and experience.
We miss him every day.
Sam, I think fondly of your challenges, antics, and acts of heroism constantly. I miss you everyday. There is no greater love than what I hold for you in my heart.
