Terry W. Stinson

Submitted by his wife

Terry W. Stinson was a 44 year old reserve firefighter and EMT for the Brown Township Fire Department. He died June 7th after suffering sudden death arrest while on duty.

Terry joined Brown Township as a volunteer in 1996 and went on to win recognition as the department’s Firefighter of the year in 1997 and Advanced Emergency Medical Technician of the year in 2000. He also attained several state certifications. He was a very dedicated volunteer who put in many‚ many hours for the department. Some of the career guys thought he had more time in than they did. In fact Terry had often mentioned that he wished he had known earlier in life how much he was going to love firefighting. He said he definitely would have chosen a different career path.

Terry graduated from Decatur Central High School in 1975. He worked full time for Eli Lilly and Company’s Emergency Response and Security Teams. He was also an Air Force Veteran.

He is survived by his wife of 15 years‚ Cathy; their two children‚ Devin and Megan; his parents‚ Delbert and Mavis Stinson and a brother Jeff.

As his best friend and fellow firefighter once said‚ ‘We’re all forever blessed to have the angel of all angels riding shot gun next to us from here on out.’

He is missed by his family and friends. His quick smile and compassionate ways were a tribute to any one who knew him. The space in our hearts that he filled is forever vacant.
