Captain Thomas J. Thompson, 70, of the Fire Department City of New York – Engine 306, died on August 17, 2015, from illness related to response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center.
He worked at Ground Zero searching for his fallen brothers and other people for countless days.
He loved being a firefighter. He never complained. He knew what he was doing and that what he was doing was helping other people. And he knew that his brothers had his back each time he walked into that fire. He knew he wasn’t alone. He never wanted to retire. He said many times he always wanted to stay at Engine 306 with his brothers.
He was a husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend.
He lived an honorable life.
