Thomas P. Phelan

Pilot Thomas P. Phelan, 45, of the Fire Department City of New York – Marine 9, died on March 16, 2018, from illness related to response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center.

While working as a ferry boat captain on September 11, 2001, he helped evacuate hundreds of people from Lower Manhattan. During the rescue and recovery efforts, he brought supplies and personnel to the World Trade Center site.

He joined the FDNY in 2003, working first at a firehouse before being promoted to Marine 9 on Staten Island.
