Wayne Goehring died from illness related to his response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. A native of Queens, New York, he served with the FDNY, Engine 311, for 11 years, from 1999 until his retirement in 2010.
His was survived by his wife, Debra, and his three daughters, Lianna, Stephanie, and Carly.
When I think of Wayne, I think of my Hero. He was a hero to many on the day of 9/11, but for our family, he was ours every day. He was a husband, and a dad to his three girls who he taught the art of music, camping, and just about everything.
When off duty from the firehouse, he was an electrician and a drummer. He was talented in many trades and creative with his hands. He loved the outdoors and took long hikes daily. He was a true inspiration with lots of energy each day. Even after we found out about his illness, he kept up his positive outlook on life.
I am so thankful for the time we had with him and will never forget!
