Firefighter
Age: 55
Year of Death: 2011
Year Honored:

William H. Quick

Firefighter William H. Quick, age 55, of the Fire Department City of New York – Ladder 134, died on January 18, 2011, from illness related to response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center.

Best known as “Billy,” he was a 23-year veteran of the FDNY whose childhood dream was to become a firefighter. He accomplished so much, receiving Medals of Honor, the Walter Scott Medal twice, numerous citations, and more.

After 9/11, he worked at Ground Zero for two months before an injury forced him to stop. His health declined tremendously after 9/11.

Billy was also a 20+ year member of the Long Beach Fire Department in Long Island.

He was the beloved husband of 24 years of Lisa and a loving and devoted father of two beautiful children. His daughter, Dr. Ryan Mary Quick Skonberg, a physical therapist, is expecting their first grandchild in September 2025, and his son, William Henry Quick II, is a law graduate and educator in NYC.

Not a day passes without Bill’s name coming up to remind us of his strength and laughter! He lived every day to be the best of the best in the FDNY and proved it until the day he died! Bill was a beautiful man and wonderful husband whose life was cut too soon!
