William J. Beard Jr.

William ‘Jackie’ Beard‚ Jr.‚ was a 56-year old Captain with the Greensboro Fire Department. He also served as Chief and Deputy Chief in the Deep River Volunteer Fire Department.

On April 10‚ 2002‚ Jackie suffered a heart attack while training a new recruit class at a structure burn.

While Jacke was a firefighter‚ he was also a farmer. His passion for helping others was only rivaled by his love for animals and working the land.

Along with his fire science degree‚ he obtained a degree in Agriculture from NC State University. He was also in the U.S. Air Force and served a tour of duty in Vietnam.

He is survived by his wife‚ Joyce‚ of 28 years.

He is greatly missed by his family‚ friends‚ and beloved dog ‘Jim.’
